Any export, whether by land or sea, is subject to transport and the resulting movement. During this movement, if the wood products are not well insulated from the outside, they may suffer knocks, scratches or scrapes, either through contact with other products being transported at the same time or with the surface of the means of transport with which they are in contact.

For example, if they are transported in a lorry or container, the product can easily get scratched by contact with the metal of the lorry or container box. The same is true if more than one wooden product is transported; if they rub against each other, their surfaces can be damaged or even their edges broken.

In both cases of transport, both by sea and by land, it is often the case that they are long transports, lasting several days or even weeks. If the wood products are not properly packaged, they may come into contact with dust or external animal agents that damage the wood during this time.

It would not be the first or the last time that products arrive at their destination full of dust or with a piece missing because a bug has eaten it.

Exports by sea have an added difficulty compared to those by land: during sea crossings, humidity is considerable and if wood products are not well insulated, this can damage them considerably.

No matter how tightly containers transporting wood products are sealed, humidity is a common denominator in all environments during sea voyages, and wood packaging for sea export must be completely airtight, as if it were a second layer of the product’s skin.
